Late, as usual, but then when am I not :D My excuse is that I spent Christmas away, staying with family, and most of December dealing with [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa.

But I did get a chance to read both of my stories on Christmas Day, and they were awesome.

My main gift was Blade: Trinity, a lovely gen story of Abby and King comforting each other through various trials and tribulations, with some Abby/King hints that were just the icing on the cake:

Comfort Where We Overlap by [archiveofourown.org profile] fadedink [Blade Movie Series]

Everyone needs a little comfort. Even the strongest people.

I also got a lovely Yuletide Madness ficlet written by my very own [livejournal.com profile] hiddencait for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. I had no idea who had written this, but I knew it had to be someone who knew me because it was perfectly designed to make me giggle like a 12 year old :D

Distasteful Traditions by [archiveofourown.org profile] hiddencait [Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters]

What were these parents thinking?!

Go read them. And give both authors some love - they deserve it!

So I checked AO3 tonight in the forlorn hope that there would be more Abby/King Blade: Trinity fic, and not only was there a new story, and not only was it awesome, but it was also written for me as part of the Yuletide NYR collection.

And I was completely oblivious to it because I hadn't got a notification that it had been posted. Oh, AO3. Bad archive, no biscuit.

But here it is:

Borrowed Time by [archiveofourown.org profile] shealynn88, and the author's summary is:

Because she'd saved him. And he'd saved her. Because they argued more than any married couple he'd ever known, and because he'd die for her.

Hannibal and Abigail, over time.

It's short and sharp and bitter sweet, and I love it, and you should all go and read it and love it, too!

Look what I got.

::draws ♥ around it::

Also, I will be spamming you all with fic again tonight as I try to catch up on my unposted [livejournal.com profile] kissbingo backlog before amnesty ends on Saturday. Plus there's that whole 'I wrote another two stories today' thing.

Sorry, guys.

I'd say that May would return us to our usual schedule, but there's that whole [community profile] mmom/[livejournal.com profile] mmom thing going on. Oops. But you know me - I'll run out of steam before too long and not write anything for another six months.
Blade: Trinity

incisor, canine, molar by [livejournal.com profile] falseeeyelashes (Blade: Trinity, R, Abigail/Hannibal)

This fic is very minimalist and sparse, but it works really well because of that and in spite of the fact that Hannibal cannot shut up in canon. There are some lovely turns of phrase in this, and they just make me happy.

21 Short Fics About Abigail Whistler and Hannibal King by [livejournal.com profile] iphignia939 (Blade: Trinity, not rated, Abigail/Hannibal)

Summary: So what do you do when you’ve rid the world of vampires, but there are still things that go bump in the night?

Lots of lovely little snippets in this fic, most of which touch on the relationship between Abigail and Hannibal, and all of which tie neatly into the way that the characters are presented in canon.

Plus, you know. They're fighting werewolves now!

The Proposal

a life ever after by [livejournal.com profile] anr (The Proposal, Andrew/Margaret, PG)

Oh, my heart. This is a fabulous little tag for the movie, and the voices - and the bantering exchanges between Andrew and Margaret - are spot on.

Anticipation by [livejournal.com profile] krysyuy (The Proposal, Andrew/Margaret, PG)

Very, very sweet, and Andrew in particular is adorable here.

So, I may have been trawling around, looking for Blade: Trinity fic. Possibly. I admit nothing.

Except that I will admit, however, to enjoying the following stories:

the morning after/the night before by [livejournal.com profile] sangga (Abigail/Hannibal, R)

Synopsis: The life and times of Hannibal King.

Why I like it: I love this type of story, where past and present are merged, and the character is gradually revealed over the course of the story. Plus [livejournal.com profile] sangga has a very strong Hannibal narrative voice, one that manages to both capture his irreverent surface and the depths underneath, and I love her take on Abigail: strong, confident and in control, with the kind of quiet certainty that Abigail had in the film. So few writers (and there are few writers anyway) manage to capture either character well, but Abigail in particular tends to suffer. Plus, Zoe. She's not a main character, but she is there and I was glad to see that she wasn't instantly forgotten about or farmed off somewhere.

Coming Clean and Starting Over by meridian1 (Abigail/Hannibal, M)

Synopsis: The Miracle Cure for vampirism's not-so-miraculous course. What it means to be 'cured' for Hannibal King. Pre the movie

Why I like it: The voices in this one aren't quite so close to the movie, and I'm not sure they tally as closely with the way that I see the characters, but the writing is fairly solid and it's very Hannibal focused not quite angst, not quite hurt/comfort but close enough for government work. I think the second story is stronger than the first, but that might be because it's shippier.

Fringe Benefits by meridian1 (Abigail/Hannibal, rated M but do not doubt that this should be rated higher even though it's on ff.net)

Synopsis: Basically, Hannibal and Abigail getting down and dirty.

Why I like it: See above. Again, it's not exactly how I see the characters - Abigail in particular comes off as cold, whereas I see her as being more reserved, with a lot going on under the surface, rather than shut down - but it's hot and the writing is solid and the banter between the characters is enjoyable. And I've just recc'd porn hosted on fanfiction.net. I feel so dirty. But unfortunately, the author hasn't posted anything since 2005 and the only site for her linked is a geocities one, which has obviously now disappeared.

And since I'm doing that rare rec thing anyway, let me rec some recent LotS fic, both of which were posted too late for me to nominate for the awards:

Staring by [livejournal.com profile] miera_c (Kahlan/Richard, R)

Synopsis: Kahlan cannot stop staring. Woodland porn.

Why I liked it: Kahlan. Richard. Woodland porn. 'Nuff said. Also, written for MEEEEEEE!

And then:

Something to Lose by [livejournal.com profile] trobadora (Cara/Dahlia, PG13)

Synopsis: After the Keeper is defeated, Cara has an unexpected encounter.

Why I like it: I like the way that [livejournal.com profile] trobadora goes about addressing the Dahlia issue in the reset verse, and how in spite of Zedd's meddling, the Dahlia in the reset verse is still strong, still a fighter, and still a match for Cara. I also love the narrative design she used here, where she intersperses the reset verse with what happened - or didn't happen - in the original two iterations. Full disclosure: I beta'd this story. And I wasn't mean, which should tell you how much I liked it. Well. I wasn't very mean, and that's not that common :)
Lovely, lovely, beautifully written Dr Who fic - post season 5, Rory introspective piece as he remembers everything that everyone else has forgotten, about a world that never was:

Small Things by [livejournal.com profile] imsanehonest, PG.

Go read it.

Leah wrote me a fic. A Torchwood/SG:A crossover, that she posted to [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic last night.

It's just...

Go read it. I love it so, so much! It's just... the angst, and the love, and the... the... God, I can't even find the words to describe it. It's about loss and love and Jack and Rodney and John and it's so in character, and I love Elizabeth and her smart observations and the way that Jack is described (so, so spot on) and Vala! And...

Like a Dream in the Morning

Summary: John's Dead. Rodney can save him. Crossover with Torchwood

Do you want to know a secret?
There's something moving in the dark.
And it's coming, Jack Harkness.
It's coming for you

Just because I can. And because this fic has just been submitted to Wraithbait.

Dana Woods - Solum Patriae

Rating: PG
Category: General
Summary: Ronon shares a bit of Sateda with the team.

I love the team interaction in this, and Ronon's characterisation. Not sure that the scenario is overly plausible (um... I don't want to give too much away but at the grand reveal I sort of thought 'wow. Um... not too smart to introduce X to a whole new place, huh) but it was a minor niggle and not enough to throw me out of the story or dim my enjoyment much.

In Defense of Honor by [livejournal.com profile] mmmchelle, a lovely and incredibly funny twist on the 'dark side' challenge on [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic.

Now, I'm normally a complete angst hound but unfortunately so far nothing in the challenge has appealed. But this one, with it's totally wonderful skewed take on what 'dark side' actually means...

I'll be over here going 'tee hee hee!'

Good gen fic just been validated on Wraithbait. It's set post Siege III, but obviously few spoilers beyond Seige II except for a couple minor character spoilers, which if you're very, very spoilerphobic you might want to avoid before tonight.

One Equal Temper by Dr_Dredd (PG-13)

Everyone grieves for Peter in his or her own way.

There have been some storming stories added to Wraithbait recently and I really, really need to update [livejournal.com profile] jamficrecs with them - in fact, with several pasted over the last couple of months. However a) I suck and b) we're off on a week's jaunt to the parentals tonight, so I need to pack, shop, pack, wash, pack and clean. And pack. So no time ::wail::

So I'm making a list, and checking it twice... Stories posted in the last couple of weeks. It's a start. And when I get time I'm going to go through the whole site and find the others I want to rec too.

More Than Enough by Tielan: General, Bates centric, rated G
He found himself watching her, although he caught himself before anything as unwary as actual admiration sprang up.

Gravesite by Rachael Sabotini: General, Elizabeth Weir, rated G
No people who turn their backs on death can be alive. Spoilers through the end of first season.

The Black Room by springwoof: General, Team, rated R, adult themes
"This is a really creepy place, Sir," said Ford.

Tower by Ellex: General, original character, rated G
"It was a whim that brought him to the tower." A little horror story written for SGA Flashfiction's 'city exploration' challenge.

It's actually amazing that all of these stories came about as a result of [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic. Bloody good comm, that.

Quite possibly the best SG:A gen story I've read to date has just been submitted to Wraithbait:

The Taste of Apples by Auburn.

Go. Read. Feedback. Make her write more.

For anyone not on Wraithbait mailing list, I give you the link to Spubba's masterpiece of a 'Get Rodney nekkid' game.

It's here. You'll need flash.
