I have all of the tie in novels, and they are love as well. I'm busy waiting for the Fire and Water one, as it's going to be - from the summary at least - Abby and Connor if not heavy, at least acknowledging that they exist ::g::
The pants thing thankfully died down in Series 2 (rumour has it that Hannah put her foot down quite firmly) and I love, love, love Abby. I love, as well, the fact that the promo shots for Season 2 subverted the traditional male hero/female sidekick convention, although I also love the shots of the characters with the creatures that typified the series 1 promos.
I take it that in your new flush of fannish love you might not be that familiar with the fandom. May I point you in the direction of anomaly_news? I mean, there are a few active comms, depending on what you like, but the newsletter picks up everything that gets posted to LJ, so it's a wonderful place for a new fan to find out what's going on.
Also, off LJ, there's The ARC, which is the main fic archive, and it has an RSS feed - thearc_rss - as well.
