My god. These lines: When she touches him, he thinks he may finally understand the deepest secrets of the Universe, experience what it's like for a sun to go supernova, grasp every detailed nuance of superstring theory.
When he touches her he thinks he might finally understand art.
It's enough to understand that when he touches John, John smiles.
It's enough to know that when John touches him, he soars.
They're so profound, which makes sense because what McKay is feeling is so very profound. In both cases he's found a connection he's never experienced before, found a new way of understanding himself through them. But in Sheppard's case, it becomes so much more than that. When he doesn't need to understand anything at all except that he can make someone happy, John in particular.
And isn't that interesting, that he graduates to using John's name whereas he never seemed to do that with Samantha's. He's so much closer to John, sees so much more with him.
It's all so incredibly touching and romantic without being sickeningly, teeth-achingly schmmopy.
