By 'they' you mean 'you' :) and it's because Claire and I have been around the fannish block once too many times. I've seen too many people take over comms and then have meltdowns and delete everything to not get a case of hives at the idea of just handing 10 years of history across to people we don't know (and everyone we know and trust completely has moved on from SGA).
Plus, you need to factor in that I'm a massive control freak.
As I said in the post itself, if anyone else wants to start an SGA Secret Santa next year, then we'll cheer them on, offer to share our rules, tips, hints etc. They just don't get the keys to our car in case they crash it or trash it :)

Hey, I totally understand, and of course it's none of my business.
As someone who just took over a long-running ficathon myself, I am basically just grateful that the continuity is there and all that history will be there.
