Met up with some of my favourite fangirls, and met one for the first time in RL (::waves at [profile] mysteriousaliwz::) for mooching around town in some of my favourite stores, and then a fabulous dinner at The Flatbread Cafe, where I even indulged in alcomohol ::g:: And today I got bonus and unexpected [personal profile] temaris, who drove up from London! I did wonder, when she wasn't online last night, before telling myself that I was being silly and of course she was just shattered and not online, but no!

Unexpected surprise [personal profile] temaris is always a joy ::g::

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes - if I've missed thanking you individually, many apologies - it wasn't deliberate but probably a side product of trying to combine surfing with the desktop and iphone ::g:: I got some lovely balloons from [personal profile] tarlanx, [personal profile] xandutch and [personal profile] the4ts, and birthday texts and e-mails from some of my other favourite people, so all in all a good, cheerful, entertaining day even if at one point I thought we'd have to build a bloody ark :)

My feet hurt and I'm shattered, so I'm off to bed shortly, but I promised a couple of things and you know what my memory is like.

[personal profile] temaris (and anyone else interested :)), the female artist I was talking about earlier today that I think you might like is Lisa Donnelly. As well as her official site, her myspace page is here. You can hear a streaming sample of some of her songs on both sites, but they tend to be the more 'poppy' of her songs, presumably because they're felt to be more marketable. Unfortunately, my favourite of the songs on her album, Blue and Little Devil, which I feel are more interesting and haunting, aren't streamed. However, she's also on last.fm and I suspect similar sites, so I'd suggest checking her out in those places as well :)

As you may have guessed ::g:: she has an album out called We Had A Thing, available for download via iTunes and AmieStreet (and probably other places). I got my version from AmieStreet, which has one of her songs - Naturally - as a free mp3 to download, and both sites I mention have brief samples of her other songs on the album so you can see the breadth of styles on her albums if pop isn't your thing. AmieStreet is also cheaper than iTunes - $8.92 versus £7.90 - but it works via you buying 'credit' and then using it up. I think you can top it up in multiples of $5 via paypal (possibly credit card as well - I use paypal) so if you don't envisage going back there, it will cost $10 including any unused/unusable 'credit'. I do use AmieStreet occasionally because they were the only place that had Susan Enan's album and they do have a lot of less mainstream or new bands that are worth checking out. They also frequently offer a variety of free legal mp3s to encourage you to check out new artists rather than iTunes one a week.

That's how I found Lisa yesterday :) And that's my pimp for the day.

The only other thing is that there will be fic at some point, thereby keeping with my semi-traditional 'posting of fic on or near my birthday' streak. It's finished and with a beta at the moment, so yay! for birthdays ::g::
