Nickels and Dimes and Love - Cath/Nick, PG
When she's feeling blue, Nick brings her candy bars from the vending machine. When she's thirsty, he brings her a soda, buys her a cup of coffee from Starbucks.
On the way home he stops at the gas station and buys her flowers, just because they were there when he went in to pay. Nothing flash - just sprays of sweet-smelling spring buds, not the huge, expensive bouquets of roses that Eddie bought her on the rare occasions he felt guilty for warming someone else's bed.
It's never a lot - just nickels and dimes - but it means the world.
It's love.

Dream On, Texas Ladies - Cath/Nick, PG
The first trip out to meet Nick's family started off hell. Not for Lindsey - Nick had nephews, nieces and a sprinkler; heaven to a desert child. Her whoops of sheer joy accompanied them into the cold kitchen.
But Nick's mom wasn't happy about this older woman dating her baby. She spent the first hour bringing Nick up to date on all his old girlfriends.
Nick spent it watching Lindsey through the window, a fond smile on his face. Then he turned to Catherine and the look in his eyes took her breath away.
His mom sighed and changed the subject.

I definitely see Nick as being the romantic sort - but small romantic gestures, more day to day thoughtfulness than big, obvious displays of affection. He just strikes me as the sort.

I think Nick and Cath are very good for one another: he's so open, spontaneous and generous, giving her what she may otherwise have stopped believing in, and she makes him stop and think sometimes, while also giving him security. Oh, and all the hot sex as well, of course.

::sigh:: I do so adore these two.
