So, apparently one of the Pope's aides has withdrawn from the Papal visit to the UK, citing the UK as a 'third world country'.
Why is this, do you think? Is it something to do with our abject poverty? Because of the way that rampant corruption or historical oppression has stymied our development? The lack of infrastructure? How about our lack of access to affordable and universal health care? The fact that we have high birth rate, poor access to birth control and high infant and maternal mortality?
Because last time I looked, none of these things were true.
Oh, wait. He's elaborated on the statement.
It's because of all of the black people.
And it gets better!
Well, that's all right, then. I can see how seeing all of those non-white faces in one of the busiest international air hubs in the world might be a bit confusing. As long as he didn't mean any slight, and was merely refering to our multicultural society, then we'll completely overlook the blatant fucking racism in that statement. Because everyone knows that multicultural = third world country. The idea that you can have successful non-white people living in a developed, first world nation, or that first world nations could be anything but non-diverse, well now, that's just crazy talk!
And for more crazy talk, how about this for the particularly delicious icing on his failcake. According to him, the UK is:
Because God forbid that there are actually people in the UK who think that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, not to mention those pesky women, should have any sorts of rights, and who are not afraid of saying such, including directly to you and your boss.
