I shall forgive you for your descent into obvious madness (Songfic, Al?) because this was such a desperately sad, heartbreaking story. It was painful to read, but in the best possible way.

Thank you. You're good like that. And, yes. Songfic. Colour me surprised too, since I generally loathe the genre and this is only my second songfic in something like 80 or 90 stories over the years. However, this doesn't quite qualify as songfic because I'm not, you know, quoting chunks of lyrics. It's more 'inspired by'.
(Did you notice the weasling excuses? I thought you would. I've had a lot of experience of weasling excuses recently ::g::)
But, yes. My problems with the genre of songfic, including 'true' songfic, is that so much of it is just bad. They're like crossovers and drabbles. Everyone thinks they can write one because they're 'easy' when in fact the opposite is true. They actually take much more skill to get them to work than the average, run of the mill story. Me, I made it easy on myself by not actually going down the 'quoting' route ::g:: But, hell, what could I do when I have Alessandro's singing on the brain and I am presented with a song with such perfect lyrics for JP III angst as this one?
