Dear Yuletide Author

First of all, thank you so much for volunteering to write in one of the tiny fandoms of my heart. Just having fic in one of these fandoms is enough to make me happy so I am sure that I will love whatever you write.

I'm going to give you some of my likes and dislikes right up front, because I know some people would rather know that. If you're the kind of person who likes to read what your recipient writes to get a flavour for what they love (and I really don't expect you to wade through my stories - it's just in case you are one of those people :)), then please feel free to check out my 'fic fandom: tags' on my DW/LJ/IJ. I've written Blade: Trinity (under 'fic fandom: blade trinity') and Alice (2009) (under 'fic fandom: alice').

Likes

In the main, I'm all about the female characters. I like women in all of their flavours – from the warriors to the homemakers, from the CEOs to those just muddling through – but I like women who are not afraid to speak their mind or take charge or be good at what they do, whatever that is. I have a massive competence kink, and that's only doubled when the competent person in question is female :)

I also like relationships, not necessarily romantic but the way in which people interact with one another, the undercurrents that flow between them, the affection or otherwise, the friendships built on firm foundations. Gen is absolutely fine with me, because I love character driven stories, but if you want to write pairing fic then some of the things I like are subtlety and understated feelings - I'm more for quiet or awkward exchanges than outright declarations of love unless outright declarations are in character, but again feel free to write what you want to write in that line. If you're going for romance, I don't mind whether you write plot or PWP, because I'm all about the connections between the characters. I like snark and banter if that's in character, but I also love the quiet moments, gentle touches (whether platonic or shippy). As far as subject matter goes, at the end of the day it's the words and the rhythms of them that make me happy so whether you want to go slice of life, deeply plotted, or simply write a thousand words of porn, it's all good with me.

Dislikes

My pet hates are minimising the contributions of female characters or erasing them from the narrative. Other things include characters acting out of character to further the plot rather than the plot arising out of the characters (I love character driven plots - they're my favourite kind). I don't mind hurt/comfort as long as there is some comfort, but I'm not fond of non-con (although I can deal with it when it's canon).

I also have a massive embarrassment/public humiliation squick, meaning that I can't read about people who are being (deliberately or otherwise) made a fool of, embarrassed in public or making a fool of themselves (and I get even more embarrassed on their behalf if it's them making a fool of themselves and they don't even realise it /o\). It's a visceral, face burning, flailing for the backbutton thing for me, I'm afraid, but it is limited to the kind of thing where I'd be utterly mortified if I was in the character's position (and if they're not, then where I'd be mortified on their behalf as an observer).

I'm afraid that agendafic or extreme kink doesn't do a great deal for me, although I do like sexy things (so don't worry if you want to go explicit, although it's certainly not necessary), and I quite like some mild kinky things like pegging, women on top etc. I'm also quite fond of threesomes where the characters have chemistry although again I prefer mixed threesomes, with f/m/m being my catnip. Also, because Yuletide is my happy place, please no character death or resolutely unhappy endings (angsty or bittersweet are fine, as long as there's some hope).

Hopefully that hasn't scared you off :-) so onto the actual requests, organised alphabetically! The bits in italics are what I actually put into my sign up :)

Alice (2009)
Alice Hamilton, Hatter

I loved Alice when I first saw it, how much fun it was, how it took the children's story and made it something new, something wonderful and twisted but not out of true. But most of all I loved Alice and Hatter, how sweet they were together, how brave when they needed to be, and - especially - how Hatter grew because of Alice, so much so that he found the courage and the selflessness to follow her home.

I would love anything in this world about the two of them, even if you don't ship them together. I would love a story set in the quiet places in the mini-series, the missing scenes, the things that weren't explored - exactly what was Hatter doing between them defeating the Queen and Alice returning home? Why did he change his mind and follow her? - or even post the mini-series - did they ever find a way back? Did they ever see The White Knight again or make a lasting kind of peace with Jack? How does Hatter adapt to Alice's world or do they ever go back and if so, why?

I really do love the world building in this, so if you want to explore that further - the way in which Wonderland and the Real World are the same or different - that would be great :)

In terms of ideas, because I know some people like prompts while some people don't (so please feel free to ignore any of this if you're one of the people who doesn't like prompts), what about: how Alice moves on now that she's had closure in relation to her father; or how Hatter/David copes with our world instead of his own; or how Carol warms to her daughter's new beau (or not). How does Hatter view our world; how does Alice reconcile Wonderland with the city in which she lives? Does Hatter show her that her world has a wonder all of its own? Or maybe she just takes him out for pizza, since he seemed intrigued (or familiar with?) the concept in the mini-series?

Blade (Movie Series
Abigail Whistler, Hannibal King

Blade: Trinity is one of the guilty pleasure movies of mine that I don't feel at all guilty about. It's glorious fun and I love Abigail. She's smart, strong and brave, and although she's very reserved and not given to showing much on the surface, you still get the impression that she feels things deeply. And I love, love, love her with Hannibal King. They complement each other so well, whether you treat their relationship as friendship, as more akin to siblings or – like me – ship it like woah!

As for Hannibal King, what's not to love? He's snarky and crude and rude, but he's just as brave as Abigail, just as strong in different ways, and he's never less than entertaining even if there is more than the occasional hint throughout the movie of something deeper and broken lying just beneath the surface.

While Abby and King are definitely my OTP in this fandom and I would love a story about the pair of them together if you could manage it, I really would be just as happy if you wrote gen, exploring their friendship and their partnership, kicking ass and taking names together. If you want to include any other of the Nightstalkers in the fic, please feel free - I didn't include them in the sign up simply to make the matching easier, and Abigail and King are my favourite characters, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't love something more team-related as well. And even Karen Jenson - I know she doesn't appear after the original movie, but again if you offered her and would like to write her interacting with the Nightstalkers, please feel free to include her :)

My dear yulegoat letter has more details if you need them, but the only thing I would request is please no Drake/King. Female centric stories are very rare in this fandom and so this is my chance to get something a little different for Christmas :-). Thank you!

While I'd prefer the story to focus on Abigail and King, if that's not possible and you wanted to write Hannibal and Danica before he joins the Night Stalkers, or Abigail bonding with the rest of the Night Stalkers, then that would be fine with me. If you're stuck for ideas and normally write slash, then Hannibal King/Danica Talos is canon and I'm pretty sure she shares everything with her brother, so going for a King/Danica/Asher threesome would definitely be an option :). I've also nominated Karen Jenson before, although someone beat me to it this time :D, so as I said if you want to throw her into the mix, maybe bonding with Abby, I'd be more than happy.

I know this is a fandom where non-con is heavily implied in canon (I'm fairly sure that King/Danica wasn't all consensual his side), but while I'm happy for you to explore that, I'd prefer it not to be too explicit.

Again, if you're the kind of person who likes prompts (and please feel free to skip if you don't :)), then some of my favourite things to explore in fic for this fandom are: how Abigail and King first met and how she rescued him; scenes of them taking vampires down together and working as a team; Abigail and King raising Zoë post-movie; first times or even the opposite - them already being in an established relationship by the time the movie rolls around; how they fit into a world where DayStar has worked and vampires no longer exist; how the Nightstalkers inherited the work on the antivirus that Karen began in the first movie, and how that translated into a cure for King; what it's like for the Nightstalkers living in Blade's shadow and does the man measure up to the myth.

However these are all just prompts in case you like them, so please feel free to ignore them and go your own way.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
Hansel, Gretel

Oh, another happy place movie. I loved the over the top joy of this movie, how much unashamed fun it was and I have a huge fondness for that type of thing.

I love the relationship between Hansel and Gretel, how it's them against the world. I don't mind if you write gen or - if you are that way inclined - a shippy fic (this is one of only two incest ships I have :D). I'd just like a story that's about them, doing what they do. Kicking witch ass and swapping wisecracks and (in Hansel's case) striking out with women.

I don't mind if you want to include any of the other movie characters in the fic - I only selected those two characters because I'd like the fic to focus on them, not because I don't love the rest of the cast :). Pre-movie vignette or post movie adventure, it's all good with me. I'd just like more of this world, the one that's dark and dangerous and larger than life, and I want more of Hansel and Gretel, them against the world (and them, obviously, winning)!

If you're one of the people who likes prompts, I'm afraid that this is pretty much an 'ALL THE THINGS' fandom for me :D But how about how Hansel and Gretel take down their second witch, after the one in the Candy Cottage? Or how about their 100th? Do they mark that in anyway? Is there a celebration, or are they full of existential 'what-the-fuck-ever' about it? Or how about the fact that Gretel is clearly the one in charge - Hansel seems fine with that, but how do the villages they go to deal with it? Or just the pair of them interacting, shippy or not. Or training Ben? Or dealing with Edward and how he fits into their team? Or... well, ALL THE THINGS :D

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Phryne Fisher, Jack Robinson, Dot Williams, Hugh Collins

God, I love this show. I fell hard for it when it first aired and I've read all of the books I could get my hands on (most of them, I think). The TV show in particular is my happy, happy, grinning all over my face place.

I love all of the characters, Phryne being my absolute favourite and Jack a close second, but I also love Dot and Hugh, Cec and Burt, Mr Butler, Camelia and Lin Chung, even Phryne's Aunt Prudence, so please feel free to include any of them as you wish even if I'd like the fic to focus on the four characters I picked.

I love how smart Phryne is, how fearless. I love the exchanges she has with Jack, including her matter of factness about her ability to take care of herself and disregard for the law when it hinders her doing what she wants to, and his exasperation with her. ("If a tree falls in a forest..." "You'll be somewhere close by, holding an axe.") I love the trust and the respect that they have for each other, the way that they spark off each other, and the obvious attraction that's flowering even more in season 2.

I love Hugh and Dot's very sweet romance, and Dot and Phryne's friendship, the way that it inspires Dot to be braver than she ever thought possible. I love how *smart* Dot is, and how much Hugh is learning about how to become a policeman. I love Mr Butler's avuncular care of his charges, including Jane, and his unflappable ability to cope with his mistress's peculiarities, how much he respects her and looks up to her. I love Dr Mac, and the way she trusts Phryne and Phryne trusts her. I love Phryne's non-judgemental nature and her refusal to limit herself because of social norms.

I love the way they're all so supportive of each other, a found family in every way, even with their occasional bickering, especially with Bert.

Anything you write for me about these characters would be a joy. I love the two canon UST/relationships of Phryne and Jack, and Dot and Hugh, but gen is fine as is pretty much any other combination. I'd prefer het or femslash to slash, simply because I'm all about the female characters :) but other than that, have fun!

I don't think I have much to add to my sign up (except to note that the four characters I picked were Phryne, Jack, Hugh and Dot). I love the cases that Phryne deals with, and her ability to think outside the box. I love her open mindedness and the way it seems to rub off on most people around her (Aunt Prudence possibly being an exception :)). I love her self-confidence and the fact that she's sexually liberated (although you certainly don't have to write sex :)), and I love her curiosity and her refusal to be sidelined or diverted from what she thinks is right.

In terms of prompts, I'm afraid my mind is a bit blank except for 'ALL THE SHINY THINGS!' but anything that maybe explores the characters, from Jack's exasperation to Hugh's nervousness, from Dot's slowly loosening but still firm sense of morality to Phryne's gaiety and impulsive generosity. Case fic or slice of life, picnic or PWP, anything would be brilliant, really.

Sleepy Hollow
Abbie Mills, Ichabod Crane, Frank Irving

I'm really enjoying this show so far. I love Ichabod's old world politeness but also the way that after the first few bumpy moments he's really embraced the fact that Abbie is an equal in all ways, that she's smart and focused and just as tough as he is in all of the ways that matter. I love how Abbie is slowly adapting to the idea that there is more to the world than the concrete that she's held so tightly to, that there are supernatural things afoot. I love her regret about her sister, the relationship she had with Sheriff Corbin, the fact that she's so smart and has started to become adaptable.

I would love fic about the world that the show inhabits, whether that's more about Abbie and Ichabod's roles as Witnesses, introducing Ichabod to the 21st Century, or exploring just how much Irving knows or doesn't know - the man has secrets that he's not yet sharing, and he's not as sceptical of the whole thing as he should, by rights, be. Feel free to include the other characters if you like, and I don't mind if it's gen or het or anything else really. I'd prefer that the fic focus on the female characters, though, and no incest, please. Thanks :)

Um, I wish I had more prompts to offer you, Author. Maybe some introspection from Ichabod about the differences or similarities between his time and ours. Or between Abbie and Katrina. Or something about Abbie and her relationship with Sheriff Corbin, and how she feels now that she knows just how little he told her while he was alive? Or Frank Irving, Man of Mystery, and how he views the strange partnership he seems to have inherited.
