PSA - Yahoo troll

Some of you might already be aware that I had an issue last April with some idiot who pinged me on Yahoo and demanded that I write a Catherine/Greg fic for him, to his specifications, and called me an asshole when I politely refused.

Apparently this is his modus operandi and he's now moved into SG:A, and has already hassled two other people that I know of on my flist. He's also done this in Buffy and Smallville in the past.

As I said to misssimm at the time and janissa11 since, I think he's finding people on the memberslist on yahoogroups for various mailing lists, since that very handily (rolls eyes) gives away not only your yahoo profile but also indicates if you're online or not. Plus, it means he can target his request to people who are at least reading fic.

So, be aware of his yahoo name - jeremycrawfordj2000 - and pre-emptively ban him if you need to from your messenger service, particularly as he gets abusive. And if you run a mailing list you might think about removing him from it, at least under that username, because I've never seen him make a single onlist post in either CSI or SG:A. He's obviously just using the mailinglist information to troll and harass members to get them to write him fic.

Well, if you do, make sure that you sign up to a mailing list with that id, and make it early in the alphabet.

As chopchica commented, it seems to be people with a, b, or c beginning usernames, which makes sense if he really is picking them up from yahoogroup mailing lists.

All he's got to do is look for the people who are online, and if he starts from the beginning and keeps going until he gets to the first online person, he's likely to keep hitting the early part of the alphabet each time.

And then, when he pings you, you can kick his ass for me.

He's done it to me in CSI, to custardpringle in Buffy, to chopchica in SG:A and from the comments on mckay_sheppard he's also done it in Smallville and comics fandom.

He just seems a random troll. Anytime he wants a fic, usually for a rare pairing, he pings some random person and demands that they write it, insulting them if they don't. And pointing him towards existing fic with that pairing doesn't cut it.

No problem. I should have named him and shamed him in my April post, but I thought at the time he was isolated to me. I hadn't realised that he did this a lot, and across a hell of a lot of fandoms.

Just happened to wander by, I hope you don't mind. He's pinged me twice, once for Sue Storm/Mary Jane, once for SGA, Elizabeth/underage female. Since I'm Tinnean no matter what IM I use, he must have been going for a while.

He wasn't abusive to me, although his pppplllleeeeaaaassssseeeee was really annoying.
