They say that the first time is always the hardest. As far as Hansel's concerned, that's just a crock of shit.

Late, as usual, but then when am I not :D My excuse is that I spent Christmas away, staying with family, and most of December dealing with [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa.

But I did get a chance to read both of my stories on Christmas Day, and they were awesome.

My main gift was Blade: Trinity, a lovely gen story of Abby and King comforting each other through various trials and tribulations, with some Abby/King hints that were just the icing on the cake:

Comfort Where We Overlap by [archiveofourown.org profile] fadedink [Blade Movie Series]

Everyone needs a little comfort. Even the strongest people.

I also got a lovely Yuletide Madness ficlet written by my very own [livejournal.com profile] hiddencait for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. I had no idea who had written this, but I knew it had to be someone who knew me because it was perfectly designed to make me giggle like a 12 year old :D

What were these parents thinking?!

Go read them. And give both authors some love - they deserve it!
[community profile] fandom_stocking sign ups are open! The sign up post is here!

Go sign up and let me know when you have so I can keep an eye out for fandoms I can write.

I've requested Blade: Trinity; Primeval; Lost Girl; Sleepy Hollow; Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries; Elementary; Lake Placid; Jurassic Park (1 and 3); Alice (2009); Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters; Marvel Cinematic Universe (Avengers especially, focused on Natasha and Clint); Dark Angel; Legend of the Seeker; and Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place. I'm pretty sure that I've forgotten something, or several somethings ::chews nails nervously:: You can edit your sign ups until they're posted, at least, although posting starts tomorrow. Sign ups close on the 18th.

So exciting! This is probably my favourite fest, simply because it's so low pressure and I can pick and choose what to write :)

So, shoo! Go sign up!

Dear Yuletide Author

First of all, thank you so much for volunteering to write in one of the tiny fandoms of my heart. Just having fic in one of these fandoms is enough to make me happy so I am sure that I will love whatever you write.

I'm going to give you some of my likes and dislikes right up front, because I know some people would rather know that. If you're the kind of person who likes to read what your recipient writes to get a flavour for what they love (and I really don't expect you to wade through my stories - it's just in case you are one of those people :)), then please feel free to check out my 'fic fandom: tags' on my DW/LJ/IJ. I've written Blade: Trinity (under 'fic fandom: blade trinity') and Alice (2009) (under 'fic fandom: alice').

Likes

In the main, I'm all about the female characters. I like women in all of their flavours – from the warriors to the homemakers, from the CEOs to those just muddling through – but I like women who are not afraid to speak their mind or take charge or be good at what they do, whatever that is. I have a massive competence kink, and that's only doubled when the competent person in question is female :)

I also like relationships, not necessarily romantic but the way in which people interact with one another, the undercurrents that flow between them, the affection or otherwise, the friendships built on firm foundations. Gen is absolutely fine with me, because I love character driven stories, but if you want to write pairing fic then some of the things I like are subtlety and understated feelings - I'm more for quiet or awkward exchanges than outright declarations of love unless outright declarations are in character, but again feel free to write what you want to write in that line. If you're going for romance, I don't mind whether you write plot or PWP, because I'm all about the connections between the characters. I like snark and banter if that's in character, but I also love the quiet moments, gentle touches (whether platonic or shippy). As far as subject matter goes, at the end of the day it's the words and the rhythms of them that make me happy so whether you want to go slice of life, deeply plotted, or simply write a thousand words of porn, it's all good with me.

Dislikes

My pet hates are minimising the contributions of female characters or erasing them from the narrative. Other things include characters acting out of character to further the plot rather than the plot arising out of the characters (I love character driven plots - they're my favourite kind). I don't mind hurt/comfort as long as there is some comfort, but I'm not fond of non-con (although I can deal with it when it's canon).

I also have a massive embarrassment/public humiliation squick, meaning that I can't read about people who are being (deliberately or otherwise) made a fool of, embarrassed in public or making a fool of themselves (and I get even more embarrassed on their behalf if it's them making a fool of themselves and they don't even realise it /o\). It's a visceral, face burning, flailing for the backbutton thing for me, I'm afraid, but it is limited to the kind of thing where I'd be utterly mortified if I was in the character's position (and if they're not, then where I'd be mortified on their behalf as an observer).

I'm afraid that agendafic or extreme kink doesn't do a great deal for me, although I do like sexy things (so don't worry if you want to go explicit, although it's certainly not necessary), and I quite like some mild kinky things like pegging, women on top etc. I'm also quite fond of threesomes where the characters have chemistry although again I prefer mixed threesomes, with f/m/m being my catnip. Also, because Yuletide is my happy place, please no character death or resolutely unhappy endings (angsty or bittersweet are fine, as long as there's some hope).

Hopefully that hasn't scared you off :-) so onto the actual requests, organised alphabetically! The bits in italics are what I actually put into my sign up :)

New season of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries starts airing on the 6th September and I cannot wait!

Currently rewatching Season 1 with [personal profile] aithine and giggling and gasping and admiring the awesome and the snark and the beautiful costumes!

If you haven't seen this show yet, you're missing out. Basically, it's a series about a lady detective in 1920s Melbourne, based on the books by Kerry Greenwood. Phryne Fisher is awesome, the supporting cast are adorable (especially Hugh and Dot), the mysteries are engaging, there's a gay female doctor who's Phryne's best friend, Phryne has a variety of love interests and an interesting and engaging relationship with Inspector Jack Robinson, who is both exasperated with and admiring of Phryne (in that he goes rapidly from thinking she's an interfering socialite to understanding that she's smart, brave and has insight and starts listening to her in very short order, while also being smart and insightful himself).

I could wax lyrical, but I think it's best if I give you a link to some posts on tumblr that give you a flavour of it here.

And my favourite:

Miss Fisher: When I disturbed him and he ran off with the book, I gave chase, and he took a shot at me, so I did the only thing I could in the circumstances.

Detective Inspector Jack Robinson: You called for help?

Miss Fisher: I stabbed him in the shoulder.

In short, I love it and if you haven't seen it yet, you should seriously check it out.

Please feel free at this point to fuck yourself up the arse.

I did the masterlist post. I checked that it had crossposted. I edited the masterlist. I made sure that the masterlist edit had flowed to LJ and, lo, it had!

Yay, I thought. They've finally fixed the issues they were having. I knew they must have been working on it because some of the other issues - like comments not showing up on default view and the 'expand' option actually opening up the thread instead - were fixed this morning.

I posted part 1.

I posted part 2.

I edited part 1 to link to part 2. Oh fuck, I thought when I spotted that the 'crosspost to LJ box' was unchecked. That doesn't look good.

LJ fucking well posted a second part 1.

I delete all of the parts I'd posted, swearing continuously, only to discover that the part 2 post was still crossposting fine. So apparently LJ are deciding to fuck up only every other post now, not on every single one. I suppose that's progress of a sort, not that anyone has bothered to acknowledge the fact that I reported the issue.

I give up. I really fucking do. I'm going to post the link to AO3 as a fic post and try again in a fucking week. Not that anyone on LJ gives a flying fuck about my fic anyway. [/rant]

Sorry guys, I'm going to have to leave off posting tonight. Livejournal is being a complete and utter pain in the arse, pretty much as it has been all day. It's letting me cross post from Dreamwidth but it's sending wrong info back to Dreamwidth so I can't edit the posts to add links in etc. I'm having to edit the LJ posts individually because if I edit it on Dreamwidth and check the 'yes, crosspost to LJ' box (which was ticked the first time I posted) it posts the entire entry again to LJ.

It kind of makes the whole crossposting thing pointless.

And, yes, the issue is at LJ's end. It's been doing weird stuff all day like not showing comments if the comments page is in default view and not expanding comment threads when you click on 'expand' but opening it up as a new thread view. So there are obviously things going on there that they aren't acknowledging.

I'll try again tomorrow, but in the meantime, the whole fic is up on AO3.

I will do a proper fic post, with headings and everything, at some point but in news that will surprise no one I wrote Blade: Trinity fic. Living is Easy, in fact, which is 50k's worth of porn more or less.

But I really just wanted to point you towards the absolutely gorgeous art that [personal profile] leyna did. Seriously. It is utterly beautiful and I am so, so lucky that she decided to claim my story.

It's here and, oh god, I love it to pieces.
